Romans 13:12 (ESV): The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.
The time to act is now! Sometimes we preachers are afraid to sound like alarmists. The time to correct wrong doing in ourselves and others is right now because we don’t know how much time we have to do so.
We know that putting off what we know needs to be done only leads to regret. Paul taught us that with every temptation we receive there is a way of escape. (1 Corinthians 10:13). However, that opportunity to escape come early in the process. Wait too long and your heart can harden. James reminds us that knowing to do good and not doing it is sin (James 4:17). When we see a habit developing in ourselves or our children, we must correct it early before it is engrained.
The master song writer Tillet Teddlie captures the right sentiment in his song “Time enough yet.”
“Time, time, time enough yet,
O soul be not alarmed,
The heavenly way I’ll choose some day,
But there’s time enough yet.
“Lost, lost O what a cry
From souls along the shore,
In darkness to go,
In sorrow and woe and be Lost!
Lost evermore.”
Never put off getting right with God. The devil takes every opportunity to turn you from God’s way. You might lose your desire to do what is right.
