The Blood Moon

This past Sunday night there was a total eclipse of the moon in the Northern hemisphere. It occurs when the earth comes between the sun and moon, giving the moon a dark reddish glow for 84 minutes, and is called a “blood moon.   If the clouds blocked out your view, do not despair, as the coming “Once-In-430 Years ‘Twin’ Totality’” will again occur on November 7th.

On the day of Pentecost Peter stated, “This is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel,” signaling the coming of the Holy Spirit. The quote continued stating of that time, “The sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood” (Amos 2:31). Truly this was fulfilled when Jesus was crucified and the sun went dark, which in turn would have cause a “blood moon.”

The return of Christ, the “day of Wrath,” is described in Revelation this way: “the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the whole moon became like blood; and the stars of the sky fell to the earth” (Re. 6:12). If you stay up to see the eclipse of the moon this November, let it remind you both of Jesus’ crucifixion, and of His return.  As Joel then proclaimed, “that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Joel 2:32, Ac. 2:21, Ro. 10:13). Will you be ready to meet the Lord before the next blood moon?
