CELEBRATING THE INCARNATION
INTRODUCTION:
We’ve spent the past 3 weeks discussing The Incarnation of Jesus.
We tried to analyze and expound some of the key NT texts that declare that He was nothing less than God-in-the-flesh, that He left His heavenly pre-existence & took human form in order to die for our sins & become our Savior and give us hope (for which we all long).
- Incarnation = a complex topic that touches on the very nature of God (Deity) Himself, & which raises many questions – so there is a place for careful analysis of it & hard thinking regarding it.
- We’re all aware that the whole concept of a divine Jesus & therefore the doctrine of Incarnation is under attack – so there is certainly a place for defending the Incarnation.
- But we would err seriously if our thinking of the Incarnation were limited to analysis and debate, because that isn’t the full extent of what the biblical writers say regarding it:
- They don’t hesitate to argue for the Incarnation – 1 John 4:1-6
- They don’t hesitate to analyze it’s significance – John 1:1-14
- They don’t hesitate to explain its implications for the Christian way of life – Phil. 2:5-11
- But much of what they say regarding the Incarnation is purely celebration:
- Praising God for caring so much that He sent His Son to become one of us (from the manger to the grave) – marveling at so wonderful an event that it really can’t be fathomed by the human imagination.
- Have you ever noticed how much singing and celebrating there is in the account of Jesus’ birth as recorded by Luke?
- Mary’s Song – Luke 1:46-55
- Angels proclamation to Shepherds – Luke 2:10-20
- Simeon’s Song – Luke 2:28-32 – GOD HAS KEPT HIS PROMISE!
- Paul picks up this note of JOY:
- 1 Timothy 3:16
- Philippians 2:5-11
CONCLUSION:
So, the Incarnation above all is an occasion of joy and celebration because whether we fully understand it or not, whether I believe it or not – IT HAPPENED.
And the world will never be (was never) the same now that IMMANUEL – God with us – has come!

Mary, Did You Know? Lyrics
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?
Did you know
That your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you’ve delivered
Will soon deliver you
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will calm a storm with His hand?
Did you know
That your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
And when you kiss your little baby
You’ve kissed the face of God
Mary, did you know?
The blind will see
The deaf will hear
And the dead will live again
The lame will leap
The dumb will speak
The praises of the Lamb
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will one day rule the nations?
Did you know
That your baby boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb?
This sleeping child you’re holding
Is the Great I Am
Oh Mary did you know?
