Keep on examining yourselves whether you are in the faith,
keep on testing yourself. Do you realize that Jesus Christ is in
you unless you fail the test? II Corinthians 13:5 (paraphrase)
1. EXAMINE YOURSELF when you feel you must have the
approval of everybody. See Matt. 5:10-12.
• Lk 6:26 – Woe unto you, when all men shall
speak well of you…
2. EXAMINE YOURSELF when you focus your life on
material things.
• When you feel you have to have as many fine
clothes and as much jewelry as Mrs. Got-Rocks.
• When you have to live above everybody else and
feel superior to everyone just like Mr. Snodgrass.
• See Luke 12:15 – Jesus said, “take heed and beware
of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in
the abundance of the things which he possesseth.”
4. EXAMINE YOURSELVES when sin is no longer as black as
it used to be
• What about pornography, homosexuality,
abortion…?
• Mercy, pardon, forgiveness- Lk. 17:3 – “if you see
your brother sin against you, rebuke him, and if he
repent, forgive him.”
5. EXAMINE YOURSELF when you begin to see your spiritual
life slipping/weakening.
• Our #1 priority should be the Lord, Mt. 6:33; Heb
10:25; Acts 20:7.
• A person might want to quit their job/move/change
life-styles to please Jesus. See Acts 19:19. Would you?
• When services or invitations are long and boring.
• When we no longer see the value of one soul to be
worth more than all the world, Mt 16:26.
