Let’s discuss a topic we all have struggled with.
How many times a day do we eat? Some start out with breakfast or coffee, second is lunch and third is dinner with a snack later. Food is energy that keeps our bodies working properly, but how many times a day do we feed our spiritual side? Can we physically get by with eating only three meals a week? The answer is no. And some people would only get one meal just on Sunday. Jesus said in Matthew 4:4, “that man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
We come to services to worship and learn more from the Bible. The more we participate in services and church activities, the more we will learn and retain. The best way to remember is repetition. This does not just apply to services, but also in our daily Bible studies as well. To truly live as Jesus wants, we must be partaking of the scriptures daily. Just as we replenish our bodies, we should replenish our souls. In Acts 17:10-12, Paul tells of the Bereans and how they were more noble than those of Thessalonica. They received the Word with all eagerness, “examining the scriptures daily to see if these things were so.”
We all have excuses for not having daily Bible studies. Does any of this sound familiar? “I had to work late; had to go band practice, had to get stuff around the house done, just was not in the right mind, I need some me time, just a day or two of not studying will not hurt,” etc… How then do we find time to watch TV, movies, play video games, sit around, look at our phones, practice for sports, or sit down to read another book? All the above are not wrong in themselves if we are also putting God first. We can all do better in our Bible studies and as long as we are breathing, we have a second chance to do better. Since we have a Bible in reach, even two or three, let us not fall short of studying the word of God. Hosea 4:6 states, “My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will reject thee.”
