The Human Body

Your eye can distinguish nearly 8 million differences in colors. Your eye and brain build color from waves of energy.

Every day blinking causes the eye to close for 30 minutes.

The iris of the eye can adjust to light intensities up to 1, 000 times.

Your ears can discriminate among more than 300,000 tones.

If all 600 muscles in your body pulled in one direction, you could lift 25 tons.

The surface area of your lungs is 1,000 square feet – 20 times greater than the surface area of your skin.

Your heart pumps more than 5 quarts of blood every minute, 1,000 gallons a day.

The average human circulatory system is 60,000 to 100,000 miles long.

Your body produces one billion red blood cells every day.

Blood serum is almost identical in chemical content to sea water.

Every day, bone manufactures 1,000,000,000 red blood cells.

The heart is a hollow muscle roughly the size of your fist and weighing between 8 and 12 ounces – is the body’s “perpetual motion machine.” The heart has its own circulatory system, which constantly supplies blood for its continuous work.

Under normal conditions, the heart pumps between 5 and 6 quarts of blood a minute. But during great exertion – like running – the heart will pump up to 40 quarts a minute, responding to an immediate demand made by the muscles. Because of their regular, strenuous activity, runners and swimmers frequently have enlarged hearts.

The largest blood vessels in your body are one inch wide.

You have skin cells in your stomach, eyes and lungs.

(Here is an insult, GWB) Every pound of excess fat you carry requires an extra 200 miles of capillaries.

More than half of your body’s 206 bones are in your hands and your feet.

One cubic inch of bone can withstand a two-ton force.

In an average lifetime, the hair on the head grows about 25 feet.

When we touch something, the impulse travels along our nerve network to the brain at the rate of 350 feet per second.

Conclusion

Of course, there are many, many more fascinating facts that could be said about the body. The most amazing fact about the body to me, is that many people believe that all the intricate perfectly functioning system came by chance – just by an unplanned evolutionary accident! How can a logically thinking individual ignore this great design and say that there is no designer?

Even though David did not know all about the body that we know, he wrote, “I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well,” (Psalm 139:14).
