The Lion and Lamb Together – Peace – Isaiah 11:1-10
INTRODUCTION: This grand and magnificent Bible prophecy holds much encouragement
for Christians today. Unfortunately, many people think that this is yet to be fulfilled.
PROMISED PROPHECY Isaiah 11:1-10 — FULFILLED: Rom 15:9-13
1. 11:1 – A shoot out of the stock of Jesse, and a branch out of his roots shall bear fruit
(figurative). FULFILLED: See Acts 13:22-24 (fulfilled by Jesus) and Revelation 5:5.-
2. 11:2 – God’s Spirit will rest upon Him. (figurative) FULFILLED: Matthew 3:16-17 and Mark
1:10. Spirit came upon Him in the form of a dove See also Luke 4:14.
3. 11:3 – Delight in fear of the Lord; not judge after sight of eyes. See also I Samuel 16:7.
FULFILLED: John 2:24-25 – Jesus knew because He is God. Also John 7:24; 8:29; 16:30.
4. 11:4 – But with righteousness shall he judge the poor/equity. FULFILLED: John 5:22-24;
5:28-30; 12:48 – Jesus judges now and later.
5. 11:4 – Smite the earth with the rod of His mouth & the with breath of lips He will slay wicked.
(figurative) FULFILLED: Revelation 19:11-16 – see Psalm 2:9; 110:1-2, 5-6; Rev 2:27 and 12:5.
6. 11:5 – Righteousness girdle of waist and faithfulness girdle of loins. (figurative). FULFILLED:
Revelation 19:11. (Matt. 3:15).
7. 11:6-8 – Wolf dwell with lamb, etc. (figurative of peace). FULFILLED: 7 & 8. All fulfilled in Christ
and the Gospel. Luke 2:14; Col 3:15; Rom 14:1.
8. 11:9 – No harm or destruction in His holy mountain. (figurative of peace) FULFILLED: Peace.
(See also Rom 8:31, 35-39).The Mountain is the church, Heb. 12:22-28.
9. 11:9 – Earth to be full of knowledge of Jehovah as waters cover sea. (figurative of Gospel)
FULFILLED: Mark 16:20; Col 1:23; m 10:18 – God’s word to all the world.
10.11:10 – The root of Jesse stands for peoples. Nations seek. (figurative of all nations
seeking the Messiah) FULFILLED: Rom 15:9-13, esp. vs 12. All nations receive the
Gospel. Also Titus 2:11.
11.Isaiah 11:1-10 – “In that day” (when lion and lamb together) – Jews and Gentiles both can
seek God (figurative of Gospel to all). FULFILLED: Matt. 28:19 and Rom 1:16 – All nations
can now seek God – the lion and lamb lie down together, Eph. 2:13-16.
12.Isaiah 11:1-10 FULFILLED:–completely Luke 21:20-22; 24:44-47 – Jesus says so.
CONCLUSION: IF the lion and lamb haven’t lain down there is no peace in Christ and we
Gentiles cannot seek the Lord. However, Isaiah 11:1-10 has been fulfilled, and all nations can
seek God and be saved by a common salvation (Jude 3, Romans 15:9-13).
